Funding the preservation of Hindu religion and culture

The Hindu Cultural Fund provides grants and disbursements to temples, Aranery schools and religious institutions across Sri Lanka.

What the Fund does

Four areas of assistance, disbursed on the recommendation of the Board of Governors.

Temples

Renovation, construction and maintenance of kovils.

Aranery schools

Support for Hindu religious education and teachers.

Religious activities

Festivals, functions and cultural programmes.

Infrastructure

Facilities that serve devotees and communities.

Objectives of the Fund

Set out under the Hindu Cultural Fund Act No. 31 of 1985, in service of the Hindu community of Sri Lanka.

Provide financial assistance for the preservation and development of Hindu temples and institutions.

Promote Hindu religious education through Aranery schools and teaching programmes.

Support festivals, functions and cultural activities that sustain Hindu heritage.

Transmit the Tamil arts to future generations through the contributions of Tamil artists.

Apply for assistance

Registered Hindu temples, Aranery schools and institutions may apply for grants. Applications for the current cycle close 31 March 2026.
